Reflections on what I’ve learned from my mom

life lessons

Today three years ago I was invited as a finalist to the Digital Female Leader Award in Berlin hosted by the initiative Global Digital Women and its founder Tijen Onaran. I was superexcited and very honored of course.

But what made this evening so very special for me was the fact that my mom joined me. I cannot describe this feeling seeing my mom being so proud, happy and excited – knowing that this „celebration thing“ and what we do with our SHIFTSCHOOL is kind of not her world.

But being there for her daughter and supporting me – that‘s what she has done throughout my entire life. And it was very often NOT easy at all for her with all the detours I have taken in my life. I can only truly understand what she and my dad have sometimes gone through now that I have children myself.

Yesterday I wrote my parents their first advent calendar letter saying that I am so grateful to have had such a beautiful childhood because there was always so much love and support for me and my brother and that I hope I will be able to do the same for my three girls.

We often talk about rolemodels and think about „famous“ and visible people. But actually they are all around us – be it our parents, a friend, a colleague, a neighbor or…

Today is a good day to say thank you to people we love and/or admire for just being there for us and inspire us. Because everyone is a rolemodel to somebody else!
