It's a trip. Sometimes, when I am alone in my art studio painting, and singing along to songs friends have written... When I'm walking in a forest, a crispness in the air and sunlight streaming through the trees... When I'm quietly reading and having my morning coffee next to my beloved... When I'm dancing unbridled by what others may think... When I'm singing alone or with friends... All of these times (and others) I feel such joy that I don't sense where I begin and the world ends.
Other times, when I've taken on too many projects (yet again), or I'm feeling overwhelmed, or stressed... Or when I've overdone it on the food and haven't exercised enough... Or I'm berating myself for not being sufficiently productive (then berating myself for holding "productivity" up as the standard for living, which is not the way I want to value a life well lived)… Then, my inner critic and judge give me a pretty unpleasant ride.
But mostly, even with all the inner bickering and castigation, I am grateful to have been gifted this life… And very, very grateful to be able to draw from a deep river of creativity, one that allows me to express even the most painful feelings of loss, betrayal and longing, in a way that reverberates with beauty.
WO / MAN IN THE MIRROR
I usually get a certain sensation in my body, one of expansion, energy and movement, which indicates if an idea has life to it. Then it's up to my mind to work through the implications, and my friends, to be sounding boards for pitfalls and possibilities I may not have foreseen.
FOOLS AND TOOLS
In its generative, life-giving aspect, transformation can be an emergent process of becoming that feels enlivening, mysterious and creative. It is what sometimes happens when we reach the edges of who we are, and sense the tantalising call of who we might yet become, knowing that the journey will lead to greater unfolding as we walk it.
