Evolutionarily, biologically, it's to reproduce. But if you want something a bit broader, here is my take:
There is no purpose except the one you want to create. Purpose is teleological, so "meaning' might be a better word. What gives you meaning?
Meaning is of course meaningless, except within the context within which it is defined. So for instance, a table is meaningless at an atomic level (it's just space), and a table is meaningless at a galactic level (it's atomic in size). BUT - at my level - the table that I sit at while I write this is very meaningful because it provides a rest to my arms, and if you hit me over the head with it, it could kill me, which would cause my children great pain.
So meaning is found within context.
What context matters most to you? For me, it is my children. I live because of them. My meaning, and my purpose, is to be a father. Anything else is a bonus.

You should not be able to be verbally abusive to kids. When I see a parent doing that in public, I feel like it's the worst thing in the world.That, or, outlawing Android.
